Main Road Connecting Khalifa Bin Zayed International Street and Ras Ghumais - E11 Interchange

The highway project, starting from the E11 Highway near Al Ghuwaifat and extending to Ras Ghumais Island, is located in the Western Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, near the Saudi Arabian border.

Ras Ghumais Island is a coastal area within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, approximately 370 km west of Abu Dhabi City. It is situated along the Arabian Gulf coastline near the border with Saudi Arabia.

The proposed road will commence at the E11 Highway, featuring a well-designed interchange to ensure smooth connectivity for commuters travelling from Abu Dhabi City and the surrounding regions. From the interchange, the road will extend approximately 30.85 km northwards. The road will comprise three lanes in each direction, with each lane measuring 3.65 m in width. It will also include an outer shoulder measuring 3.5 m, an inner shoulder measuring 1.2 m, and a median measuring 5 m in width. The road will extend to Ras Ghumais Island and will incorporate an underpass serving the Ras Ghumais villas. At its termination point, the proposed road will seamlessly connect to the existing 1x1 single carriageway.

E11 Interchange Details:

The new interchange will comprise direct ramps facilitating right-turning traffic from the E11 Highway to Ras Ghumais and vice versa. A semi-direct ramp will be provided to accommodate traffic travelling from Ras Ghumais towards Abu Dhabi.

The bridge crossing over the E11 Highway will have an approximate total span of 74.70 m, comprising two spans of 37.35 m each. The substructure will consist of abutments and piers supported on piled foundations. The abutments will be provided with mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls. The bridge superstructure will be supported on bearings at the abutments and will comprise a cast-in-situ, post-tensioned concrete box girder. Concrete barriers and an asphaltic wearing surface will be provided on the deck slab.
